Description

A rear view of a Transporter Erector (TE) on display at the Oscar -1 museum at Whiteman AFB.

On the rear you can see the two-hinged mounts that bolt to the two pylons that are mounted on the LF. After the TE container is bolted down by MHT (Missile Handling Team) members to these two pylons, the container can be raised to the vertical position with the two large blue painted hydraulic actuators, seen on the side of the container.

The ladder on the side of the container was to allow a technician to climb to the top (forward) housing to the container where the hoist assembly was located. After the container was vertical, the missile would have to be translated over a bit to allow the missile to clear the pads that the missile rested on when the container was lowered. After the missile was translated, the missile could be lowered into the launch duct.

Missile emplacements and removals were a lot of fun to participate in.

Since I was an MMT (Missile Maintenance Team) member, and qualified to operate the elevator wark cage in the launch tube. I would assist locking down the missile skirt onto the missile suspension system that held the missile in the duct.
