Homestead D by F16CrewChief Homestead D by F16CrewChief
F-4D 65-0747 of the 306 TFTS, 31 TTW, Homestead AFB transient at Luke AFB.

The ZF tailcode was a hold over from the old Vietnam era codes, that really carried no meanining other than identify the 31 TTW. After the wing transitioned to F-16A's in 1984, the code was changed to "HS" for Homestead.

I always referred to ZF as "Zouth Florida" to commemerate Homestead's location south of Miami.

TTW = Tactical Training Wing

In the USAF prior to 1992, fighter squadrons were TFS for Tactical Fighter Squadrons, TFTS for Tactical Fighter Training Squadrons, FIS for Fighter Interceptor Squadrons, FITS for Fighter Interceptor Training Squadrons.

Recon acft were TRS for Tactical Reconaissance Squdrons, TRTS Tactical Recon Training Squadron.

Wings, and Groups consists of generally two or more squadrons.

TFW for Tactical Figher Wing or TFG for Tactical Fighter Group and so on for TTW, TRW, FIW, FIG.

In 1992 the Tactical and Training monikers were removed, so the 310 TFTS, 58 TTW at Luke AFB (my old squadron) became 310 FS, 58 FW.
