FY1981 Eagle No. 6 by F16CrewChief FY1981 Eagle No. 6 by F16CrewChief
Test question; At first glance what is different about this F-15C from the other Eagle pics I have posted recently?

F-15C-32-MC, 81-0055 seen here assigned to the 27th TFS, 1st TFW, based at Langley AFB and seen taxiing out for takeoff at Luke AFB at the conclusion of "Longrifle 87" in March 1987.

This was one of the competition judges aircraft, since this was an air-to-ground exercise… for more info.

The unusual thing about this F-15C is that it has Conformal Fuel Tanks or CFT's installed. These were not like the F-15E CFT's, as they did not allow bomb carriage, there were only four AIM-7 launchers installed on the tank.

See… for another view of this same jet. SSDD!

Glad you liked the shot! I seldom saw F-15 'Light Greys' w/ CFTs.

Thanks for the link. Hope to find close shots of the "differences" between CFT's (hope I can just add Sparrow launchers) as I plan to make some for single seater model builds. Would be a nice surprise at a model show sportin' saddle bags!

From what I remember the C/D was capable of carrying the CFTs.  A safe bet would be to to model a Langley or Keflavik airplane.

A and C model Eagles with CFT pics are rare finds in the web. Kudos for the pic man.

Note the dark area on the fuselage by the canopy that is covered by the intake when the ramp is "up".
