Description

F-16B-1-CF, 78-0080 assigned to the 310th TFTS, 58th TTW home based at Luke AFB.

Production of regular USAF operational jets started with the F-16A/B-1-CF jets. The -CF denoted that the aircraft were assembled at Air Force plant 04, the General Dynamics facility in Ft. Worth Texas. Convair originally operated the plant before being bought by General Dynamics, hence "CF" for Convair Ft. Worth. The U.S. government owns this physical plant.

The Block 1's most identifying feature was a black radome as seen in this view fav.me/d2gb7hu . Service, the radome was easily seen during against the sky, so this was eliminated in the Block 5 aircraft and eventually retrofitted to the Block 1's. With the exception of the radome, the Blocks 1 and 5 were pretty much the same.

The Block 10's had some internal differences for the generator system and the flight control systems. There was no real way to tell the blocks apart except by the serial number.

In late 1982, the Air Force and GD instituted the Falcon Rally program at Hill AFB. This modified all of the Block 1 and 5's to the production block 10 standards. After Falcon Rally, the USAF referred to all of these aircraft as "Block 10's".

I hope you enjoy this look at the evolution of the F-16 as seen in this collection of 'Family Model' jets!
